15th Balloon Meeting at Bad Griesbach

For the fifteenth time aleady, the Bad Griesbach Balloon Meeting took place in 2008 - a little jubilee!

On Thursday afternoon, Werner, Basti and Matthias opened the event with Cat, Sheep and Penguin on the square between the hotels of Bad Griesbach.

On friday morning, the weather was good enough for a flight of the "big" balloons. Basti accompanied his sister Jessica in the new balloon of the Balloon Club of Landshut, while Matthias took to the sky with Michael Wimmer in the "Rottaler Fruchtsaft" balloon.

The scattered clouds allowed us to rise up to 3000 meters...

... where this beautiful morning view was awaiting us!

In the afternoon, the big moment for Matthias and Basti had finally arrived: Just three months ago, they had had the idea to build a new model balloon dedicated to the Bad Griesbach Balloon Meeting.

The organisation committee around Michael Wimmer and Irene Mayer-Jobst had no clue - only when the balloon's envelope started to unfold, they recognized the logo of the Bad Griesbach Balloon Meeting on the light blue fabric.

Designed by Matthias in three hours, built by Bastian in 300, the new envelope holds 103 cubic meters of hot air, standing seven meters tall. The basic shape itself consists of 480 parts, in addition to the complex artwork which is completely sewn into the envelope fabric.

As the builder of the balloon, Basti of course had the honour to bring fire into the new envelope for the first time.

Irene Mayer-Jobst, who organises the event on behalf of the hotels of Bad Griesbach, introduced the new envelope with some sprinkles of champagne and gave it the name "Ballooning", which is also the insiders' name of the Bad Griesbach Balloon Meeting.

It is really a magnificent moment to see a new balloon ascend for the first time after hours and hours of working...

After our balloon introduction, the spectators didn't have to wait longtime for the next highlight: Marlies Nägeli from Switzerland had brought along the Cathedral of St. Gallen - as a balloon special shape!

After the launch of the "big" balloons, it was time for some Pingu romance again... ;-)

Unfortunately, this was the last ballooning action at the Bad Griesbach Meeting: Bad weather came along, and all further balloon activities had to be cancelled. We still had fun nevertheless - whether in the famous "Moststüble", in the swimming pools of Bad Griesbach or in the different hotel bars.

Let's hope the weather will be better again next year! :-)
