6th Balloon Meeting at Eglofs

In the beginning of May 2008, we visited the Eglofs Balloon Meeting in the Allgaeu for the first time - and within a few hours already, we were really enthusiastic about this wonderful event!

Frank Schnelle from FEUERBALLON.DE was the first one to show his model balloon to the crowd on Thursday afternoon.

In the evening, the "big" balloonists could enjoy the event from up above.

This balloon had a rather unusual freight: Four alphorn players were giving a little concert on board.

Later, Sheep and Penguin conquered the sky above the Eglofs launch site.

And we also took part in the night glow - Bastian with his Sheep and Matthias with his D-MINI.

On Friday morning, all of the model balloonists had the chance to be in the baskets...

... and could observe the magnificent Allgaeu from the sky.

On Friday afternoon, we were in for the next highlight: A guided tour through the Zeppelin hangar in Friedrichshafen, where the fourth Zeppelin NT was being assembled.

A really interesting experience for all of the participants!

The most interesting thing for Matthias and Basti of course was the 1:9 scale model of the Zeppelin NT, which they had discovered in a corner of the hangar.

In the evening, all balloons could take off from Eglofs again.

Basti and his D-OABS highlighted the way to the evening barbecue...

... spirits were running so high that eventually, Matthias and Basti started a downhill race with two childrens' tractors ;-)

Also on Saturday morning, the weather was fine again and the balloons could take off one more time.

The wind guided the teams towards the town of Wangen, so that many of the pilots and passengers could enjoy a nice view of the medieval Old Town.

In the afternoon, we took part in a fire fighter training. All interested pilots had the chance to practice with extinguishers provided.

Waiting for the evening flight: Basti, Matthias, organiser Helmut and Wolfgang (f.l.t.r.).

On Saturday evening, the model balloons held a little night glow on the village sqare of Eglofs.

The find weather lasted - the balloons could launch on Sunday morning again. Matthias unpacked his solar balloon, and Basti had the chance to take a ride with the EnBW airship - so he could watch Matthias' preparations from up above.

The Black Pearl rises into a cloudless morning sky.

Safe landing before the power line: Matthias didn't dare to cross that one...
This flight marked the end of a wonderful ballooning weekend for us - and one thing's for certain, next year we'll be back! :-)

Special thanks to Babsi, Thomas and Wolfgang for the photos!
